BEHIND
AFTER-HOURS HELP LINE
For maintenance, housekeeping, or key lockouts after hours, call 252-354-2690 and leave a message on our voicemail. Our night duty personnel will be paged. Response time averages 30 minutes or less, unless they are detained by a previous call. Simple plumbing repairs, A/C or appliance failures must be scheduled between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily. For linen emergencies call Island Essentials at 252-354-8887.
THEFT
Although theft is rare on the island, always remember to lock all doors and windows when leaving your vacation home, and secure your vehicles when not in use. In the rare event you need to report a break-in, please contact the Carteret County Dispatch at 252-726-1911.
UNATTENDED BEACH EQUIPMENT
In an effort to improve public safety and aesthetics, and due to sea turtle nesting concerns, the Emerald Isle and Indian Beach Board of Commissioners have adopted an ordinance that requires all unattended beach equipment, including shade tents, canopies, volleyball nets and other equipment, to be removed from the beach strand each night. All unattended items left on the beach between 7:00 PM and 8:00 AM are now illegal and will be confiscated and removed by town staff. Personal possessions may not be stored near or on the dunes.
SAFETY: THE DANGERS OF DIGGING HOLES
Think twice before digging a hole on the beach. It is unlawful to dig a hole deeper than 12 inches without completely filling such depression before departing the beach. Deep holes may cave in, bury and suffocate children and even adults. They're also a major hazard for emergency vehicles driving on the beach since they are
extremely difficult to see. In addition, holes of any size can put the lives of sea turtles and their hatchlings in danger. Nesting sea turtles have fallen in and have been trapped in these man-made holes. Offenders will be fined $100.
ALWAYS SWIM WITH A BUDDY
Although Emerald Isle is blessed with wide, sandy beaches and warm ocean waters, care should always be exercised when playing or swimming in the water. The “buddy system” should always be used and children should not be left unattended. For emergency water rescue, call 911 and the town emergency response personnel will be on the scene as quickly as possible.
