Into His Hands
Richard W. Shaw
Former 7th Grade Social Studies teacher
(1934 - 2020)
Mr. Shaw entered into eternal rest on December
29, 2020, just shy of his 87 birthday. A graduate of
Manasquan High School and Davis and Elkins College in
West Virginia. He was a star athlete in track and football,
going on to play in the NFL for the Los Angeles Rams
after completing a tour of service in the army.
Mr. Shaw’s greatest job, and the one he loved the most, was teaching 7th grade at Saint Joseph Grade
School. In the very early years he taught Geography, retiring as the Social Studies teacher. He loved his
beloved trailer classroom before moving permanently into the B Building. His enthusiasm, his love of history,
his engaging personality and ready wit made his class one the students eagerly awaited. Mr. Shaw also
coached football and baseball at the high school and was also the middle school baseball coach for many years.
He will be remembered fondly by colleagues and all his former students. Thank you Mr. Shaw for the
many years of service to the St. Joseph Grade School community.
