 Three Books that Influenced My Path in Life
I was asked recently what some of the books are that steered my path and success in life. I have read many great books, and from a reasonably young age I started to read self-help books, autobiographies and biographies.
Reflecting on that, there are probably three books that had a major impact.
The Lazy Way to Riches by Joe Karbo
I am not sure how I got onto this book, but in my twenties I was looking for a quick way to make money and that led me to this book. Looking at a survey I filled in in the book, it was on 29 May 1983 that I read it, which meant I would have been twenty-three years old. I don’t remember much about this book other than that it started me on the path of goal setting. I started writing my goals every New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. On 31 December 1985, I wrote my first annual goals and I still have the original today. Goal setting has been a big part of my life ever since.
The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber
It was 3–5 months into setting up Solatube that I went to a seminar by an Australian marketing guru, Winston Marsh. He preached about a book called The E-Myth (now revised as The E-Myth Revisited) by Michael Gerber. It was all about systemising.
