of the waxed twine beneath the first several turns, proceed with the serving until
the entire splice is smoothly and tightly covered.
Allow only the last six or seven wraps to remain loose. Reeve the end of the
twine back under the slack turns, snug the turns as tightly as possible, and cut the
end close.
The design of an arborist style heaver or serving mallet is radically different
from that of the sailor’s standard serving mallet. At no time are any of the turns
of the service out of sight because they are under the barrel of the standard
mallet.
