You’ve Decided to Place an Ad . . . . . . .

                                                Now What?

To make sure your ad looks its best, there are some things that you or your graphic designer should do. The
design of your Chow Life ad is included in the ad cost. Just email me to let me know that you want to place an ad
and what you want for the design, such as, the theme or background color, the text you want in the ad (preferably
in the email or as a Word document) and a high resolution photo that is at least 300 ppi at full size which would
be 2550 x 3300 pixels for an 8 ½” x 11” page. The pixel dimensions of an image can be found in the file properties
on your computer. If you have a digital file purchased from a show photographer, it should meet these require-
ments. However, these days many people use their phone to take pictures or scan images. If you are going to use
your phone, the images should be emailed at the “original” size preferably or at least “large” size as these are the
only ones that are high resolution. Below is a photo of a ribbon taken on an iPhone and emailed at each of the
possible image sizes: Photo #1 is “original” size; Photo #2 is “large” size; Photo #3 is “medium” size; and photo #4
           is “small” size.

You can see the difference in their size. While I can enlarge a photo for an ad, to a certain extent, the “medium”
and “small” size photos are too low resolution and will be blurry when enlarged. If you have an original printed
photo, you can mail it to me. I will scan it for your ad and return the photo to you at no additional cost, after the
magazine has been sent to the printer.
If you choose to design your own ad or have someone else design it for you, on the next page are the speci-
                 fications for the ad layout.
