The Future is Bright
The Greater San Antonio Builders Association had a record setting
year in 2017 under the direction of President Wayne Moravits, the
Executive Committee, Board of Directors and all our members who were
involved and helped make a difference. We are excited to work with our
new 2018 President Bryan Smith and his leadership team. The future of
our Association is bright! We will kick-off our year with the 2018 Housing
Forecast led by Jack Inselmann on January 5th at the Omni Colonnade
Hotel starting at 8:00am.
Mark Vitner, Sr. Chief Economist with Wells Fargo, will detail the
national market trends in housing and how they will impact your
business in 2018. Gen. Heather Pringle, the Commander of Joint Base
San Antonio (JBSA), will share how important the military is to our local
Kristi Sutterfield economy and how we can partner together in the future. The Housing
Executive Vice President
Forecast will wrap up with Jack Inselmann of Metrostudy, and present
the 31st annual dive into the details of the San Antonio housing market.
If you haven’t registered for the Housing Forecast, it’s not too late! Give GSABA a call at 210-696-3800.
Your Association leadership team is committed to continuing our momentum with local government outreach.
Our past success in communicating with elected officials and city staff in the city of San Antonio has created a
model that we hope to reproduce in other communities in our area. We’ve identified Builders who are building
in nine cities outside of San Antonio, and are looking to include you in conversations that can help improve the
permitting and inspections processes. The next step is to create ‘City Teams’ utilizing our members’ first-hand
knowledge of these other communities and establish relationships that can blossom in good times as well as
times that are more challenging. We will be establishing City Teams in Schertz, Cibolo, Converse, Selma, Live
Oak, Helotes, Bandera, Boerne and Seguin in 2018. If you have an interest in serving, please call me at 210-696-3800.
2018 will also be an active election year at the state level. There will be a considerable amount of new faces
in the Texas Legislature in 2019, and it is important that we help support the candidates who understand the
housing industry and will support measures to keep it growing. Starting with the annual SABPAC Chili Cook-off
and Washer Tournament on February 2nd, GSABA will launch a comprehensive fundraising campaign for our
local Political Action Committee. Our goal is to grow our local PAC and we encourage you to contribute your
personal funds. A small contribution can go a long way!
2017 truly was a historic year, capped off with GSABA being awarded TAB’s ‘Local Association Accomplishment
of the Year’ for our work with the Student Chapters at UTSA and St. Philip’s College. Past President Michael Moore
was inducted into the Texas Association of Builders Hall of Honor on November 17th, 2017 for his leadership in the
advocacy and government affairs arena on the local, state and national levels. Congratulations Michael!
We are headed to NAHB’s International Builders Show (IBS) the week of January 8th with students from our
NAHB Student Chapter at UTSA who will be competing in a national competition. GSABA wishes the best of luck
to our students as they present a development project at IBS in Orlando, on January 9th. As we build on our past
successes, we want to invite you to play a part in our future. Give me a call to help you find your place in our
Association. Your membership is important to me and to our industry.
Warm Regards,
