A Message from the President
I want to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in the upcoming 2018 Code Classes that will
be co-hosted at GSABA with the City of San Antonio’s Development Services Department (DSD) starting
in August and September with a wrap up class in November.
Joe Leos, DR Horton Homes and GSABA board member, Jack Uptmore, Uptmore Custom Homes,
GSABA Past President and 2018 Executive Committee member and I serve on the Building Related
Codes Subcommittee with Louis Faraklas, Spencer Ramzel and Robert Hanley. We have been meeting
the last several months to review and provide input to the 2018 code changes and any proposed
Bryan Smith amendments for the residential building industry.

The City plans to adopt the new codes on or before October 1st. Below are the dates of the training
classes. Each of the training classes will be held from 11:30am to 1:00pm in the GSABA ballroom. The five-training class series
is $50, and lunch is included. Individual training classes are $15 per class. We will send you additional information in mid-July
with speaker information.

Topic: Electronic Plan Reviews, Overview of the upcoming Building & Energy Code Changes and what the City of San
Antonio is looking for in the field. The session will have an overview of the new seismic map, the new tables that address
alternative wood stud heights and other pertinent information.

Topic: Changes to the International Electrical Conservation Codes (IECC) and all local amendments to include updates on
Rescheck’s on line applications along with building envelope testing, requirements for air leakage and the latest on Energy
Rating Indexes.

Topic: It’s All about the Mechanical – Find out what is included in the 2018 International Mechanical Code (IMC) and gain
insight into San Antonino’s local amendments

Topic: 2018 International Plumbing Code (IPC)
You will receive the updated table for the minimum number of required plumbing fixtures, solar thermal water heating
systems requirements to conform to the ICC 900/SRCC 300 standard and information on well systems. Details on local
requirements to comply with standard NGWA-01 will be provided.

as they share in detail what is working and what is not since the adoption of the 2018 codes!
