The taut-line hitch is ideal for creating adjustable moorings in
tidal areas as it is a flexible loop for use on lines under tension.
It is possible to maintain the tension by sliding the hitch to
adjust the size of the loop without having to retie the knot.
As this knot will only slide one way, it is most commonly used
by campers to hold their guy ropes taut. OVERHAND KNOTS AND HITCHES

Now make a half hitch
around the standing part
outside the loop. Make
sure it goes in the same
direction as the wraps in
Steps 1 and 2.

Push the last half hitch
up towards the other
two to tighten the knot.
Adjust the loop as
necessary.
