Anchor hitch
This knot is useful to bend a fixed line to a ring or anchor. It does not loosen under moderate
motion—something that is required of a hitch for boat anchorage. Small craft still attach
anchors by means of rope rather than chain, and the anchor hitch is a fine choice for such a
purpose.
Start by making two turns around the ring from back to front (1). Pass the working end behind the
standing part, then through the round turns, from left to right (2). Bring the working end behind
the standing part, then wrap upward one turn, feeding the end behind the working part, thus
creating a half hitch (3). Pull on the standing part to tighten the knot (4).
