Munter mule







  Each and every knot may be tied left-handed or right-handed, having a distinct mirror image,

  and—to illustrate this—the other Munter friction hitch is shown here. To tie off either version
  (while it is loaded) and then to release it again, for instance to free a hand for some essential
  extra task, use the Munter mule.


  After tying the Munter friction hitch (see page 140), pick up a bight in the rope, pass it around the

  loaded standing part, and tuck it down through its own loop (1) to tie an overhand knot. Secure
  the end with another overhand knot (2).
