US master rigger, writer, and broadcaster Brion Toss seems to have come up with the name, in
1990, for this simplest of knots, which is probably centuries old. Use it to attach a lanyard to a
tool, to bend a halyard to a sail, or for any other purpose that can be imagined.
Simply tuck a bight through a tight hole and add an overhand knot (see page 292) as a stopper (1).
Then tuck the knotted end of the lanyard or cord through the bight (2) and pull the arrangement
tight (3).
