Timber hitch
A timber hitch was traditionally used to drag or hoist a log or pole. The knot will cinch tight
against the log when a pull is applied.
Begin the knot by making a turn around the log, then wrap the working end once around the
standing end (1). Make a wrap between the working end and the log (2). Then make a second
wrap in the same way (3). Pull on the standing end to tighten the knot (4).
