Halter hitch
Originally employed to tether animals, this sliding noose can be handily applied whenever a
quick release would be an advantage.
Make a turn around the anchorage point, then tie an overhand knot (see page 292) around the
standing part of the line, leaving a drawloop (1, 2, 3). Tuck the end through this loop to prevent its
accidental withdrawal (4), and tighten the knot (5). Undo this final tuck and tug on the drawloop
to free the hitch.
