Half blood knot
When a secure attachment to an eye is needed using small monofilament, a popular knot is the
half blood knot. Generally, blood knots are those that have characteristic wraps going away
from the center of the knot. This one is used to tie into a hook, weight, or lure. It is slippery and
may release under a heavy load, so should not be used for offshore fishing.
Start by running about 1 ft (30 cm) of line through the lure eye. Wrap the working line around the
standing part at least six times (2). Then feed the standing end through the end of the bight next to
the eye (3). Moisten the line and pull on the standing and working ends to tighten (4).
