Pole hitch







  A couple of these gathering or binding knots will lash together an assortment of long objects—

  oars and boat hooks, garden tools, tent poles, and the like—and so tame accumulations of bits
  and pieces that would otherwise be awkward to lug around.


  Lay the length of lashing down in an S- or Z-shape and place the objects to be bound on top of it
  (1). Bring each end of the lashing over the top of the objects and tuck it through the opposite bight

  (2). Pull upward to tighten the seizing, gathering together the items contained within it, and secure
  it with a square knot (see page 10) (3, 4).
