Snug hitch (reinforced)

All knots rely on friction, and this plaited hitch is noticeably more secure than simpler ones.

Pass the working end up behind the rail, ring, or other anchorage point, then down in front and up

behind once more, tucking and trapping a small bight beneath the diagonal wrapping turn thus
formed (1). Next, take the wrapping turn behind the standing part of the rope (2), to weave it
upward in a locking tuck that goes under-over-under three knot parts (3). Systematically work the

  hitch snug and tight (4).
