Chapter 15 - Formatting Word Document
What is formatting?
Formatting is the process of changing the appearance of text in a document.
Formatting is done with the use of tools that are found on the Format Toolbar or
Format Menu. Examples of these tools are; font type, font size font style
(bold/italic/underline), etc.
NB: A font is a set of letters, numbers and symbols that share a unified
design.
Selecting Text (Highlighting)
Whenever you want to editor or format text, you must select it first. Selecting is
the process of a user placing the cursor at one end of a text, holds down the left
mouse button and drag to the other end of the text.
How to Select Text (Highlighting)
1. Position the insertion point before or after the text that you want to
select.
2. Click and hold down the left mouse button, drag the mouse across the
text you want to select and then release the mouse button.
OR
1. Position the Insertion Point before or after the text that you want to
select
2. Press and hold the Shift Key
3. Press the Arrow Keys until the text is selected
OR
How to select a single line of text:
1. Move the I-beam to the left margin until it becomes a right-slanted
white arrow pointer.
2. Position the arrow pointer to the left of the line you want to highlight.
3. Click once to highlight a single line.
