Chapter 20 - Technologies Used to Access the Internet

As said earlier, the internet can be used to access information, communicate with
someone, share files, etc. But this cannot be done without an access to Internet.
There are various technologies used to access the Internet. The technologies are:

                          Dial-Up
                          Broadband
                          Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP)
                          Mobile Internet

               Dial-Up Internet Service

Dial-up Internet access is a form of internet access that allows connectivity to
the internet through a standard telephone line. It is also known as Integrated

Services Digital (ISD) Network. It requires that you join an ISP in order to link
a telephone line to a modem or router and to have access to the dial-up gateway.

If you are looking for an inexpensive (cheap) internet service, dial-up is the way
to go. Because dial-up is cheap, it has the slowest type of access you can get.

               Broadband Internet Services

Broadband Internet service truly is the most used form of Internet access because
of its high access speeds. It is offered in four different forms: DSL, fiber-optic,
               cable, wireless and satellite.
