Chapter 19 - Accessing Information Using Website

               Address

You must have learnt earlier that a website is a collection of Webpages linked to
one another by hyperlinks. You must have also learnt how to access websites by
clinking on hyperlinks as we have done in the previous lesson. But it is not
always the case that to access websites you click on hyperlinks. Sometimes you
need to type the Web Address of the main webpage in the address bar of a web
               browser.

                                                        Address Bar

               Understanding URL

A website address is also known as URL which stands for Uniform Resource
Locator. Think of it like a street address, with each portion of the URL as
different parts of the address, and each giving you different information.
Examples of Web Addresses or URLs: http://www.wikipedia.com,
                          http://www.google.com, http://www.educationghana.net,
                          http://www.ghanaweb.com, http://www.moe.gov.gh,
                          http://www.tv3.com, http://www.eduhgana.net,

                          http://www.facebook.com, http://www.alatipha.blogspot.com, etc.

From the above example, you can see that, URLs are made up of:
                          Alphabets (a, b, c, d…)
                          Numbers (1, 2, 3, …)

Punctuation marks such as forward slash (/), colon (, period (.),
question mark (?), underscore (_), dwindle (~), etc.

From the above you can also see the website address (URL), typed in the

Address Bar normally contains alphabets. However, the web browser is not
designed to understand the alphabets which are collectively known as URL. So,
the URL will be converted into the numeric equivalent of the alphabets which is
