writers used this event to share their ideas and projects with their peers. After breakfast, members discovered wonderful spots by the lake and in the woods, away from the noise and distractions of daily life, to put pen to paper. The retreat was a great opportunity for sharing stories and writing experiences with others who “get it.”

Lectures and Discussions
BIBLE STUDY
The Bible Study Club hosts a non-denominational Sunday Morning Fellowship every Sunday in the
Lake House ballrooms B & C from 10:30-11:30 a.m. All residents and visiting guests with a guest pass are welcome. We are taking a summer break from Thursday evenings and will resume again after Labor Day.
On the second Saturday of May, Bibles and Bagels gathered for a study and discussion led by Bob Poliquin. This month, keeping in mind that all scripture is valuable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness, we discussed how your understanding of the Bible might affect what you think about church and practical Christian living. Other topics discussed: In what ways is the Christ/Church relationship an image/symbol of marriage, and how much truth is there to the love/respect model?
On the third Tuesday, the Women’s Fellowship met for refreshments and listened to guest speaker Pat Wentink, an SCCL resident. She shared parts of her story, starting as a very young girl living in the United Kingdom during World War II, and her later challenge of moving to Puerto Rico with her husband and children, not speaking Spanish, and living as a minority. However, as a child, a spiritual “seed” was started in her heart. Later, after several moves, heartaches, and disappointments, her interest in spiritual things was renewed when she attended a Women’s Conference in the Charlotte area. Her spiritual journey up to now can be captured as “Oh Becky, Talk about Amazing Grace.”

CHORAL SOCIETY
The SCCL Choral Society Presents Songs You Know And Love: A Musical MosaicOutside the Lodge it was a warm, humid May evening. While inside, the air conditioner was cranked down to sixty-eight cool degrees in order to accommodate the choral members crowded together on stage. Boy... have we grown.
Under the creative direction of Bernie Markley and his supporting five-piece musical combo, the sold-out musical event was well received by the enthusiastic audience as they swayed in their seats, mouthing the words to familiar musical selections.
Our favorite announcers, Joe Silien and Marvin Witte, who were very witty, brought laughter and bright smiles to the receptive audience, with their charming tongue- in-cheek humor.
It truly was a “grand night for singing.” A wide selection of musical numbers made this an inspiring American mosaic event. From: “The Way You Look Tonight”... “Won’t You Come Home Bill Bailey”... “Please, Mr. Postman”... to “Hernando’s Hideaway”... “Try To Remember”... “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Climb Every Mountain,” which brought tears to many in the audience.
The new President of the SCCL Choral Society, Mary Wright, thanked the entire cast, crew, and audience
