GOLF, LADIES’ 9-HOLE
Submitted by Susan Rettig
May Day means many things to many people. For the Ladies 9-Hole League, May 1st was the celebration of spring, life, and growth at our Fourth Annual Member- Guest Tournament. We warmly received our family and friends for a day of golf, lunch, and companionship.
The proceeds from mulligans benefited The Ride for Roswell on June 23, 2018. Our member Sue Sinnott will “ride to end cancer” in memory of her sister Karen Neal. This tournament helped her reach her initial fundraising goal with a total contribution of $220.
The awards for golf were as follows: Flight 1 – First Place: Jan Haviland and Christine Blackert; Second Place: Joann Dilworth and Jennifer Hynes (daughter); Third Place: Zita Merker and Loretta Gardner. Flight 2 – First Place: Sue Sinnott and Jackie Wichmann; Second Place: Marilyn Navarro and Braelyn Oliver (stand-in granddaughter); Third Place: Lou Ann Elliott and Krista Dunn (daughter). Flight 3 – First Place: Kathy Bozzo and Linda Strong; Second Place: Carol Bross and Judy

GOLF, WOMEN’S 18-HOLE
Fifty-six golfers paired off into Blue and Red in the 11th annual Ryder Cup Tournament, May 23-24 at Carolina Lakes. The winning team was the Blue team by a score of 411⁄2 Red Team to 421⁄2 Blue Team. The two-day tournament paired two golfers from each team in a variety of formats for the 36 holes.
Thanks to the committee of Kathy Houpt, Jeanette Fickes, Dee Hankins, Laura Hammaker, Judy McKinstry, and Jackie Wichmann for making this another memorable Ryder Cup Tournament for the Carolina Lakes Women’s Golf Association. A great time was had by all.
