CENTRE HASTINGS HOUSING HOPES
Belleville, ON, Canada / Quinte News
Centre Hastings is still waiting to hear back from the federal
government on their application to the Housing Accelerator
Fund.
CAO Typhany Choinard tells Quinte News the municipality is
looking at a population growth of 16% by 2036. “That grant
supports several initiatives to improve the housing stock in the
community. We have submitted that application to that as well as
a housing needs study that we’ve prepared in house.” “Centre
Hastings is looking to be a hub for housing growth.
We’re looking at capitalizing on the Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus “7 in 7” (7,000 new residential units in 7 years), which I
think allows about 1,800 homes for Hastings County.”
Choinard says the hope is to have 500 new units, mostly in the urban portion of the municipality, in the next 12 years. The
CMHC Housing Accelerator Fund encourages initiatives that increase housing supply in urban, rural, and northern
municipalities and Indigenous communities.
MADOC C.O.P.E
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, participants from Madoc C.O.P.E.
Community Living went to the Norwood Fair. We took three vans
full of people. I was surprised to see how amazing the fair was
because it was the biggest fair I had ever been to. I had never been
to that fair before. We all had a lot of fun going on the rides and
watching the parade. We ate our lunches on picnic benches at the
fair by the horse ring. Then I went on the octagon ride and another
one and it was so much fun. We all had a blast and it was the best
fair I have ever been to. We also want to thank the support and the
C.O.P.E. staff for everything especially for taking us to one of the
biggest and best fall fair around.
