DOORS OPEN - HASTINGS COUNTY
On Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. take a tour around Hastings County! Whether you’re walking
from location to location on a lively downtown street or meandering along a backroad in search of a hidden gem, each
one of Hastings County’s unique Doors Open locations are filled with wonder and discovery.
Our land is known as a region rich with resources. Since time immemorial, First Nations traversed the rugged
wilderness, following migratory patterns and the river systems. The communities speckled among our vast green
spaces were settled by those, both brave and optimistic, who flocked to unearth its riches and carve out a home
among the thick forests. Oral documentation narrates the Indigenous peoples who share valuable knowledge of how
to survive and thrive in such a harsh environment.
Hastings County is a patchwork of forests mixed with pastures, glades, rocky Canadian shield and winding waterways.
These powerful and connecting waterways allowed for passage and progression long before the roads you will travel
were built. They fueled the making and moving of raw goods and were the foundation of our community’s growth and
sustainability. Hastings County is steeped in tradition and surrounded by Mother Nature’s bounty. Welcome to our
wild.
