Salutatorian
Dakota Stedman, from Spring Hill,
Tennessee, is the third of five children born to Christopher and Shelley Stedman. He has been home educated his entire life and spends his free time writing, reading, drawing, and playing and creating games. As a musician, he enjoys playing guitar and piano and recently built a Cajon. Dakota is witty and always ready with a pun and was voted “Class Clown” at Shine Tutorial. Childhood involvement in Bible Bowl, church and VBS and participating in youth group and NewDay missions trips to Joplin, Missouri as a teen have helped to solidify his faith. Choosing godly friends has also impacted Dakota in the same way that iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). One of Dakota’s heroes is the great missionary and explorer, David Livingstone, who said: “I am prepared to go anywhere, provided it be forward.”
Dakota was awarded a STEM scholarship from the Scarlett Family Foundation as well as the highest merit scholarship, the Trustees' Scholarship, from Union University where he looks forward to majoring in electrical engineering this fall. His goal is to work in the field of renewable energy and to teach science, an interest which is attributed in part to his aptitude and part to his high school tutorial science teacher whose love for God and science inspires him.
