9th District officers
get festive for
Dia de los Muertos
Officers in the 9th District participated in the ninth annual Back of the Yards Dia de los Muertos parade on Oct. 24, in antic- ipation of the Nov. 2 holiday.
The parade to celebrate Dia de los Muertos — or the Day of the Dead — started its route in Back of the Yards and went through New City, coming to an end in Sherman Park.
Participants dressed in traditional holiday clothing with face paint and adorned their cars with decorative skulls to celebrate the holiday that honors deceased family members.
2nd District officers prioritize play
Officers in the 2nd District showed up to the corner of 5800 South Indiana with pride on Sept. 30 as an integral part of the Washington Park Chamber of Commerce’s playground revital- ization effort.
Made possible by a 2020 Neighborhood Enhancement Grant from the South East Chicago Commission (SECC), officers were able to pitch in time and resources to help restore the once-crumbling play lot.
