14th District remembers Officer Terrence Loftus
Members of the 14th Dis- trict gathered for a memori- al roll call on Oct. 10 to mark the life and service of Offi- cer Terrence Loftus.
On that day 44 years
ago, Loftus — a 15-veter-
an — was driving home in
the area of Fullerton and
Central Park avenues when
he encountered a fight be-
tween two gangs. He exited
his squad car with plans to
try to stop the altercation
but was hit by gunfire from
one of the gangs. A bullet struck Loftus in the spine, and he died two days later.
The memorial roll call, featuring patrol and bike of- ficers, gathered to honor Loftus near the spot where he gave his life in service to protecting the city.
