Marian Jackson mda started painting in 1975 in acrylics. A few years later she took an oil class with Peggy Stogdill and never looked back. During the following years she used colored pencils mainly to
plan out Certification ideas, eventually switching to painting and teaching with Colored Pencils almost exclusively. She credits her husband John with getting her back into painting. After her first husband died, she didn’t paint for seven years. John wondered why when she had a whole room of art supplies so Marian entered the MDA floral, passed and hasn’t stopped painting since.
Marian has been a member of the Society of Decorative Painters for 46 years and although mostly self- taught, has been lucky enough to have had seminars with some wonderful teachers. She passed her Certification in 1981 and began teaching. Mostly through life’s circumstances rather than intent, long periods of time passed between her entries for the Master Levels. She passed her Master Stroke in 1989 on the first try, Floral in 1997 on the second try and Still Life in 2005 on the third try. Since becoming a Master Decorative Artist, she has served several years as a judge with SDP’s Certification Program, served on several committees and is currently serving as Certification Chair. Marian received the Dedicated Service award and was thrilled to receive the Silver Palette in 2019, the highest award of merit the Society gives.
