The Text of Proclamation

Text of the Authentic Proclamation Manuscript placed in the National Monument

The text of the proclamation that has undergone changes, known as the "Authentic
Proclamation" script, is the result of the typing of Sayuti Melik, a youth figure who took part in
the preparation of the Proclamation, whose content is as follows:

Kami bangsa Indonesia dengan ini menjatakan kemerdekaan Indonesia.

Hal-hal jang mengenai pemindahan kekoeasaan d.l.l., diselenggarakan

dengan tjara saksama dan dalam tempo jang sesingkat-singkatnja.

Djakarta, hari 17 boelan 8 tahoen 05

Atas nama bangsa Indonesia.

The year in both the text of the Proclamation manuscript above (both in the text of the Klad
Proclamation manuscript and in the text of the Authentic Proclamation manuscript) the number
"year 05" is written which is short for the number "year 2605", because the calendar year used
during the japanese military occupation government at that time was in accordance with the
calendar year in force in Japan, which at that time was "2605".
