Taking from the strong
To give to the ailing
But they are one and the same
Exchanging flesh for time
Redefining strength, from an illusion of invincibility
To a story of survival

An army of soldiers, with pink badges of courage
Rising up with determination
Mastectomy, villain of anatomy
Your sword will be taken from you
And it is you who will be beaten

Cancer, your mystery is your weapon
But, you have not heard of
the power of the human spirit,
the power of love,
the power of friendship……

Even our lost seeds, watered with tears
Grow into awareness
And we the survivors,
strengthened during a bitter season,
Become ripened, sweeter fruit.
