                   Sour Grapes

                                                                             -Sashikala

They came in droves from across Seven Seas
                                Swayed by their Bhagwan’s mastery
                   His hallowed precincts, their landmark
On alighting, they directed to “Koregaon Park

Now Rajneeshdham was not so bad
I’d taken a peep into it, in fact,
It boasted of “a home away from home”
And as an added incentive, an AIDS-free zone.

Like a moth to the flame, I too was drawn
Osho I thought, would make me reborn
Long days of meditation, levitation and lazy somnambulating
Would surely offset Acts of Banking Regulations

Next day I set out for enlightenment
And came back empty-handed, only disappointment
It seems my pockets were not DOLLAR-lined
Nor my problems Osho’s solving kind.

My sense of rejection knew no bounds
I retreated as if pursued by grey-hounds
Apparently, there was to be no respite
From training, daily grind, breaks despite.

Now I stand and watch them pass me by
Hand in hand, peering at the sky
What do you look for, I asked one in a whisper
“ Look at the Moon”, Rajneesh said, “and you’ll find me there”

Like a madman chasing the hare on the moon
Like a search for a potful of gold as boon
Boy. am I glad I am not reduced
To faithful devotion to Godmen, thus seduced.
