Success with a difference

otivational speeches today have a great impact
on our mind. One feels good about oneself
Mand a ‘can do’ attitude replaces the ‘can’t
do’ thinking. But while we feel elated from lis-
tening & watching motivational videos, it is my
experience that the actual action is undertaken
by a person only when they are truly inspired
from within. It is the inspiration that creates a
vision for a person as in how they want to lead
their life.
It is for this reason that we read real life stories
of people who have overcome life’s challenges, their
trials and tribulations, and gain an insight from their lives.
Dr. Lakshmi Pradha is one such personality, who defied the many odds against
her, to rise above them and achieve what first seemed impossible for people who
knew her as a child. She is a special child by birth with stunted growth and
height of only 3 ft. 9 inches, and has broken all the myths and falsified beliefs
that the former underlined category are unattractive, average and cannot lead a
normal healthy happy life.
Performing her role as a dentist and
lecturer, Dr. Lakshmi Pradha today
is also an IT professional, as well as
musician – quite an enviable profile for
a person born in an ordinary family in
India in 1980, even without the special
category.
From her beautiful smile, one cannot
guess at the hardships she has faced, nor
is it evident from her achievements how
discriminating our society is, towards any
special person.
When she was born, her parents had to
bear the displeasure of the people around
them, who discouraged them from trying
too hard to care for her and hope for a good
future for her. Her mother is a strong per-
son who had seen life from close quarters
