I am a 26 year old male working in a software company.
My job profile is ok and I am happy with my work and the
office environment. But I feel my communicative skills are
not good enough. What can I do to improve it and make my
communication more effective?
Good communication is the key to our interactions with other
people. When we think of how to communicate, we often focus on
spoken or written language. However, when it comes to language,
it’s not just what you say, but how you say it. Saying affirmations like
“I’m sorry, thank you, great etc“ at the beginning of a conversation
will have a much greater impact rather than adding it in at the end
of a long explanation so please take care in framing your sentences. But make sure
you don’t feel over conscious about it.
Your body language says even more about you than your verbal language. So make
sure to look at the listeners face as you speak and maintain a comfortable posture
and distance between you and the listener depending on the situation and relation.
Most people fail to look others in the eye, slouch, jiggle their hands and feet when
they’re nervous, and reveal what they’re really feeling inside through the tiny micro
expressions on their faces. Learn to control your body language, and
you can control the impression you make on others.
