Building Code Information
This section is to assist and educate the pest control industry on the new Florida Building Code
regulations. It summarizes the sections of the Florida Building Code that relate to termites that
might impact some operations of licensed pest control operators.
Florida Building Code Sections Related to Termites
The Florida Building Code became effective March 1, 2002. This code contains a number
of provisions that were designed to increase the effectiveness of preventative treatments
for termites and decrease construction practices that make structures susceptible to
termite infestation. The changes were developed by the Termite Work Group consisting
of representatives of the pest control industry, the building industry, universities, and state
agencies. The table below lists sections of the Florida Building Code that pertain to termite
protection and gives a short description of that section. The actual language of the sections
referenced below can be seen on the Florida Building Commission’s website.
