Tips for Twitter

            • Tell your message in a succinct way. You only have 280 characters to utilise, so make it short and sweet,
but also relevant. You still want to get your message across in a meaningful way.

            • Tag any relevant agencies or businesses to spread your message further and utilise them within the text.
For example: "We're working with @ParksVic on protecting our local parks and forests".
            • Utilise hashtags. Hashtags are an important way for Twitter users to search for the content that is relevant
to them and are usually theme or current event related. Popular hashtags we would often use for example
are #vicfires when we are posting regarding fires or #plannedburning when we are conducting planned
burns for example. Remember not to overuse hashtags, your message comes first.
            • A picture tells a thousand words. You only have 280 characters, so use images that tell a story to help your
tweet, or post a video or even a gif to get your message across on Twitter.
            • Link to further information. While you might always feel short on characters on Twitter, post links in your
copy so users can find out more information.

            • Don't be afraid to use an emoji or two to get your point across if it is appropriate. Emoji's are a fun way to
interact with your audience and can help save on characters too!
