must be followed exactly. Just as a surgeon first learns how to
open a chest to operate on a heart, he or she then follows those
precise and proven methods exactly. No guessing, no deviation
from what he or she learned, no risking failure or death by
changing what is proven to work. PMC is a proven system, and
quality and consistency is the result.

Don’t worry, PMC is not difficult and in fact, it makes your job
easier and more satisfying. It’s more fun to know exactly how to
do your work and it’s more satisfying to be able to be very good
at your job. You probably know that sinking feeling you get
when you’re expected to complete a task but you don’t know
how to do it. It’s difficult to get the results you want from a
computer if you don’t know which buttons to push. But, once
you learn how to operate the computer program, you feel a lot
better about it. It’s the same with housecleaning. PMC teaches
you new skills. Learning how to clean (or do anything else) the
very best possible way can change how you feel about the
activity and about yourself. As you get better and better at a
task you move closer to the cutting edge of your attention. (Just
watch someone play a computer game.) As you get closer to that
edge, it's nearly impossible to dislike what you're doing. When
you learn how to shave off unnecessary steps, motions, and
repetition, you'll move closer and closer to full attention. You’re
going to learn PMC and one of the benefits will be to make your
housecleaning job more successful and enjoyable.

PMC comes from following the Speed Cleaning system, but it’s
not just about “speed”. We’re not going to teach you to hurry up
or teach you to race through your cleaning jobs. We’re not going
to focus on speed at all. What “Speed” means in this case is: not
wasting time and not wasting effort and motion. PMC is about
efficiency. When you know how to do something efficiently,
you don’t waste time and energy. You don’t have to re-clean
areas because you cleaned them in the wrong sequence. When
you don’t waste motions and effort, something wonderful
            happens—you don’t get as tired doing the work. It’s a win-win
situation. PMC allows you to do the cleaning well and to do it as
quickly as humanly possible while insuring quality, consistency,
and promoting care to reduce accidents and breakage.
