Introduction
to Strain Gauges
There are many challenges to mounting and using strain gauge sensors to make measurements. Ask questions and review project ideas directly with strain gauge experts.
Objectives
• Learn how to select the proper strain gauge for your application
• Learn how to properly prepare strain gauges for installation
• Learn about lead wire effects of 2-, 3- and 4-wire gauge configurations
• Discuss choosing the right components (adhesive, covering agents) for your application
• Learn how to compensate for temperature effects, superimposed stresses and other interference effects
Prerequisites – Fundamentals of Acoustics and Vibration, understanding of basic NVH/physics
Participants – Everyone interested in on-boarding an array tools, those looking to understand the basics or need a refresher in array technology.
Advanced Noise Source Identification
This course will describe various Noise Source Identification (NSI) techniques. Since NSI tools are continually advancing, students will be exposed to the latest array technology and just enough theory to gain a basic understanding of what is required, without being overwhelmed. This course will describe Nearfield Acoustic Holography, Planar and Spherical Beamforming and the many of the methods associated with each. Day one will be classroom based and will focus on theory and a variety of case studies highlighting practical application of each technique. The entire second day will be devoted to hands-on activities.
Objectives
• Introduce different processing techniques for array data
• Explain the application of various array tools – planar, hand held, spherical.
• Understand the fundamental principles of array sizing and selection
• Hands on use of various array tools
