Inspecting and/or Replacing the Dodge™ Coupling
Some systems may have the older style Lovejoy™ Coupling. If this is the case, it will be replaced by the currently used
Dodge™ Coupling. The instructions below will show how to replace the Lovejoy™ with the Dodge™ and show to in
simply install a new Dodge™.
Lovejoy™ Coupling Dodge™ Coupling
Coupling Descriptions
The Lovejoy™ coupling is assembled with two hubs, and a rubber spider that is used to key the coupling hubs into
position. The Dodge™ is a two-piece “flange style” coupling with Taper-Lock® bushings, and a flexible (rubber)
element used to couple the flanges together. By design the Dodge™ coupling transfers energy over a larger diameter,
therefore providing more durability to the Prep Jet application.
It has been determined that there are two situations that lend to the failure of the Lovejoy™ Coupling.
1. Parallel misalignment between the Coupling and the Pump
2. Excessive wear of the rubber spider (Spider shown below)

Description of Wear
The motor and pump shafts must be parallel, otherwise additional torque is applied to the coupling during operation
(see example below). The increased torque is then transferred to the rubber spider, which will then accelerate wear of
the spider. When the spider has excessive wear, torque is then directly applied to the coupling hubs eventually
causing premature failure.
