E-1032 PROGRAMMING AND OPERATION
Chapter 4 Techniques in Programming
Friction Passes from Entrance to Exit (Even Pass Numbers)
This pass is most commonly used to clean front surfaces, side flat surfaces, and in front of raised edges on sides. This pass
gets some of the back and outbound of raised edges on back but most of the backs cleaning is done in the other direction
friction pass. The top-wheel will not operate in this direction; the controller will automatically omit it from the application. This
is the pass mostly responsible for cleaning the front of the vehicle.
Enter Wheels Behind Vehicle
This pass starts with the entrance wheels on and in behind the vehicle. Enter wheels are rotating forward and
enter wheel lower pressure, enter both in, and enter P/S pneumatic air valves are all on. The carriage will move
slowly forward at BACK speed. As the wheels are pulled into the back of the vehicle, the HIGH CURRENT
RETRACT logic will activate to assist in wheels coming out and around. This can be observed by watching the
water being sprayed on entrance wheels momentarily turn off. The enter P/S pneumatic valve will shift at the
user specified retract pneumatic distance. The main factors that affect this motion are back speed, high limit
current setting, and the enter wheel lower pressure.
It is recommended that enter wheel lower pressure be set first according to machine startup description. Then
adjust the back speed. If back speed is to fast damage may occur to both machine and vehicle. If rough on the
back of the vehicle after pressure and speed adjusted the high limit current retract may need to be adjusted. If
enter wheels are bouncing off rear corners of vehicle after these adjustments, close flow controls slightly and
retest.
Enter Wheels on Sides of Vehicle
Once the wheels are around back corners and on side of vehicle, carriage will typically change to MID speed.
The high current retract logic may activate on sides of vehicles but this should not be frequent. If retract
observed frequently, adjust enter lower pressure or high current retract current until occurring less frequent. As
the enter wheels approach mirrors they will reverse rotation without switching to enter higher pressure. This
keeps the enter wheels gentle on mirrors. The exit side of mirrors is washed by exit wheels.
Exit Wheels on Sides of Vehicle
The exit wheels will begin washing sides of vehicles as soon as pass started. The mid speed should be set low
enough for exit wheels to smoothly around mirrors. The exit wheels may go past mirrors at back speed. Vehicle
length and application configuration affect which speed is used over mirrors. Typically back speed is
automatically slow enough.
