He had walked back to the site
of his sacrifice a few days later to find
the deya lamp over turn and crumbs of
crackers. He had been elated thinking
that it had actually worked but as the
days dragged on the more he
questioned if it wasn’t just some stray
dog that had ate the crackers and knock
over the lamp.
It wasn’t until day fifteen to be
exact that he heard his grandmother
animated voice as she thanked God.
Kristof ran from his room, he too soon
jumping in jubilation as he saw his
grandfather’s left foot settle on the
ground for the first time in months. Mas
Errol was swinging Miss Mazie round
and round with a look of pure elation on
his face. Kristof couldn’t help but to
mirror his grandfather’s expression,
feeling a level of accomplishment for
having made the sacrifice.
