Whenever he would say this to his

grandmother, Miss Mazie, but in more round

words, the lady of Indian descent with long

silver hair would always say in a storyteller

like the voice of wisdom “common sense

mek before book sense”. He could

understand that she had seen many years

before him but times have changed and

jumbie can’t roam street again with so much

               street light.

Kristof had more than his regular

rounds this morning so he didn’t spend long

               pondering his grandmother’s views. Mas

Errol, his grandfather, had foot-his leg was

so swollen that he could barely even shuffle

to the bathroom much less tend the farm.

The pig pen had to be washed out and the

pigs fed, the left side of the farm cut and the

mulching lay on the cabbage patch as well

               as watered.
