Brief History
Initially, the island of Trinidad was
occupied by the Ingredi which was apart of
the Arawak people who were peace-loving
and farmers and the Caribs who were
hunter-gatherers and quite fierce.
Christopher Columbus was already
on his third expedition, on July 31, 1498, he
ended up on the coasts of Trinidad. Not
long after, the island was colonized by
Spain and within the year of 1532, the
colony had designated someone one to
govern the country. This was a time when
slave trade was abundant while the
Indigenous people of the island were either
overworked or banished from their
homeland, Africans were transported to
Trinidad.
