A Jumbie's healing
Kristof had never believed in the
supernatural. So when he saw his
grandmother painting deya lamps, he
rolled his eyes and continued to the back
door to throw corn off the back step for the
chickens. He wasn’t trying to be
disrespectful to his grandmother but he
wasn’t superstitious. It was New Year’s
Eve and as usual, his grandmother’s
traditions were carefully carried out. A
sacrifice must be prepared for the
legendary spirit of Dee Baba for prosperity
of the farm in the year to come. From what
he learned in sixth grade a plant requires
water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight in
order to sustain itself and from his
perspective if man is still breathing, the
sun forever in the sky and rain falls on a
regular, the farm will do just fine.
