INTRODUCTION
Dear reader,
Let me make an upfront admission. This is not a self-help book;
neither is this one that has sure-fire suggestions or quick-fix solutions.
To be honest, I’ve mostly regarded claims of books to be such with
a certain degree of misgiving as I feel life is not about a magic wand
that can instantly transform things. It is rather an evolution. A journey
framed by experiences and discovery, a voyage about correspondence of
insights and about authenticity and the spirit of immediacy.
Letters are a fascinating medium in that they help put a perspective to
life. They have been used since time immemorial to pronounce war,
proclaim peace, describe love, define feelings, recount events, report
circumstances, arrange meetings, proffer analysis, solicit assistance,
mark beginnings and declare endings. Indeed, in making life real,
almost eternal, letters are the scholarly antidote to life’s ephemerality. In
considering letters as memorials, they live on.
