UTC’s Annual Potjiekos Competition

                                                                                                      th
The very prestigious culinary event of the year, which is the annual UTC Potjiekos Competition was held on the 4 of August this year.

The theme for this year’s competition was based on the “Super Rugby IV”. Teams were divided into four teams namely the Chiefs, Crusaders, Hurricanes and
Lions which represented the actual rugby franchises that made it into the Super Rugby IV semi finales. The week leading up to the event was filled with secret
team meetings, strategising as to the best course of action in securing the prize of “Ultimate Potjiekos Master”.
On the day there was a buzz of excitement as teams began setting up their stalls, and as ever, some last minute frantic
preparations. Once the fires were roaring teams began preparing their ingredients and they were off chopping, mixing, stirring,
boiling and trying to detract competing teams with cheerful banter.

Once the pots were done, our third party impartial judges were treated to a gastronomic feast of flavours of taste and cheerful
vibrant presentation of each teams offering. After much deliberation by the judges and possible alleged graft, which has never
proven, there could only be one winner. With much anticipation the winners were finally announced “Ultimate Pojtiekos
Master” for 2017 was the Lions team.

The Lions team emphatically celebrated their victory and was also awarded the
“Team Spirit” prize by the judges, making it a clean sweep for the team. The
Lions lead cook, Sumeshree Moodley says it was her first experience cooking
in a “Potjie” pot and attests the victory to her team for their fun and vibrant spirit.

A good time was had by all, and some are already looking forward to next year
to dethrone the Lions team from their title. See you next year!
