How to start a Sole-Proprietor “DBA?”

1. Visit your local Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk and register your business name:

2. Once you have filed your DBA you most publish in a newspaper for 30 days. This is to
make sure that the name that you have selected is not already owned by someone else.
You will be handed a list of suggested companies to do with, but I recommended “DBA 4

Less” for publication. They are economical and easy to use.

3. Limited Liability Corporation (LLC)

Definition: An LLC is not a corporation—it is a legal form of a company that provides
protection and limited liability to its owners. LLC stands for "limited liability company." An LLC
brings together some features of both business partnerships and corporations, although it is

more like a partnership. Owners, also called "members," are protected from liability, but the
business's earnings and losses pass through to owners, who report them on their personal
