TRAIL OF THE BLUE BIRD

She melodiously chirps every morn,
just when the sun spreads its arms,
she flaps her brilliant wings,
and battles the moving wind,
she quenches her thirst from dew drops,
and claims to be a citizen of sky,

She races with swift planes,
and twirls with butterflies,
she flails with vibrant kites,
and swings on tree twigs,
she gossips with crows and parrots,
and claims to be a citizen of sky,

She flies across vast fields,
of orange honeysuckles and sapphire hyacinths,
of shaded lilies and smiling sunflowers,
she wears flamboyant wreaths,
stitched out of blooming tulips,
and claims to be a citizen of sky,

She flies aloft the snow-capped mountains,
and dips her wings in in azure seas,
she hears the secrets of whispering trees,
and soars alongside the Ganges,
she waves to orchards of apple,
and claims to be a citizen of sky,

She mercilessly devours fleshy worms,
and eats amber mangoes from tree tops,
scarecrows don't fool her,
as she pecks golden wheat grains,
she chomps peanuts you threw away,
and claims to be a citizen of sky,

She wanders in the wonderland,
that exists beyond the clouds, Maryam Alvi
she explores the world of lightning and rainbows, 8-B
and deciphers mysteries of nature,
she bathes in orange sunlight,
and claims to be a citizen of sky,

She sees the sun meet the glimmering waters,
and knows its time to return to her dwelling,
where four hungry nestlings await,
the blue bird feeds her young ones,
then lays on soft moss to sleep,
claiming the sky in her dreams!
