Materials: Hacivat and Karagöz puppets in separate pieces, stick, parcel or box,
parchment paper, waste materials, scissors, glue, colored pencils, candle
Place: Preschool class

General Purpose:
1. Making movements that require the use of small muscles
2. Collecting objects
3. Bringing objects together to form new shapes
Description of the Activity: The teacher comes up with the idea of creating shadows
and determines an area according to the number of children in a suitable place in the
classroom. In the dark environment, with candlelight or flashlight a game called” Don't
Step on My Shadow ”is played. One player is designated ”It” for this game. Within the
designated playing field, the “It” chases his friends and tries to step on someone's
shadow. When he manages to step on someone’s shadow,that child become the “It”.
The play may be continued as long as the children want. At the end of the game, the
teacher asks:” What else can we do with the shadows?” The teacher puts pictures of
Hacivat and Karagöz characters on the tables and introduces the shadow play stories.
