1999 FCI Racing European Championship, Gelsenkirchen, Germany, September 4-5

This championship was initially scheduled to be held in Hungary. Not clear why it was
changed. There were 297 dogs registered, including 12 Sloughis. There were many
disqualifications. On Saturday, the prize-giving ceremony did not finish until 9 p.m.

2000 FCI Racing World Championship Mont de Marsan, France, June 3-4
An exemplary organization is what we read in the press. 285 Dogs from 11 different
countries were registered, 42 were not present. A big touring coach carrying Borzois had

arrived late from Russia, after it was stopped at the Polish border, which caused a delay.
With the agreement of the Borzoi participants, the Borzoi runs were moved to Sunday. At
the finish line on the grass track, volunteers stood like cheerleaders waving bundles of
plastic strips to make the dogs alert to the finish line. All the champions on Saturday were
German. Twelve Sloughis were registered. The French club for African Sighthounds
presented each Sloughi participant with a bottle of champagne.
