Editor’s Note
We apologise to Mike Tempest for omitting two Figure 1 shows the relationship between the
graphs which he referred to in his article in our Breed Mean Score (BMS) and the Year of
March 2020 edition (Issue 10). The graphs Scoring. The years are labelled from 1 to 31,
presented data for his own breed Tibetan Year 1 corresponding with the early years of
Terriers, and are reproduced here with a brief 1984-88 when there were insufficient scores
explanation (see the original article for the full to justify separate graph points for each year;
explanation). Year 31 corresponds to 2018. The blue dots on
the graph show that
there were fluctuations
up and down from
year to year; the
redline represents
the statistically fitted
trend line (in statistical
parlance this is a
regression line).
This line shows that
on average the hip
score in TTs has been
reduced by 0.15 of a
score per year, which
over the 35 years of
scoring represents a
reduction of 5 in the
BMS.
