The world’s
biggest swamp
When the torrential rains come,
thousands of lakes form across the
flat basin of the Pantanal – the
world’s largest tropical wetland.

Covering over 180,000km , it is
twice the size of Portugal. The vast
floodplain is home to wildlife, such
as jaguars, caimans and toucans,
as well as ‘pantaneiros’ – local
cowboys who shift their cattle as
the waters ebb and flow.
